Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation is one of Australia’s largest providers of Aboriginal health care. Our incredible team provides remote health services and support to more than 10,000 people across East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

Miwatj Health are pleased to offer this position as a full-time, fixed term opportunity. Based in our Darwin Office, you will be working closely with the Allied Health team. To be successful in this position you will coordinate the planning and implementation of the Birthing on Country program in Galiwin’ku including the integration of the Djӓkamirr and Strong Women Worker roles.

Core aspects of your role will include: *

  • Coordinate the future planning and integration of the Djӓkamirr workforce model into Miwatj Health.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement (internal and external) to deliver an integrated approach to the implementation of the Birthing on Country project.
  • Undertake secretariat duties for the in-house Birthing on Country working group.
  • Work closely with the Connected Beginnings Lead Agency in Galiwin’ku to support integrated services to promote school-readiness in children 0-8 years old.
  • Project management approach to develop and implement program processes, as well as support collaboration and involvement across Miwatj programs (especially Maternal Women’s Health, MECSH, Strong Women’s Program, Connected Beginnings and Child Health) in the Birthing on Country project.
  • Support adaptation and development of culturally appropriate and in-language resources to meet the needs of our communities in collaboration with stakeholders as needed.
  • Any other duties as required by the Allied Health Manager.

Who we’re looking for: *
To thrive in this role, you’ll have:

  • An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination.
  • An understanding of the issues faced by Yolngu people living in remote settings.
  • Degree in health promotion, public health or related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Sound understanding of the social determinants of health in an Aboriginal public health setting.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work independently with good time management skills.
  • Demonstrated communication and engagement skills with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as a member of team and to facilitate collaborative action.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Desktop research experience and excellent administration skills.
  • Willingness to travel to the Miwatj East Arnhem region.

  • Experience in collaborating with research institutions and projects with community.
  • Training and/or mentoring experience.
  • Ability to speak an Aboriginal language from the Miwatj region and/or knowledge of kinship systems of North East Arnhem Land.
